Policy Advocacy

The World Trade Center Wisconsin acts as a platform for companies to express their positions on international policy issues, as well as provides forums for these companies to discuss common issues with key government officials. Working to keep open lines of communication with elected & appointed leaders, the WTC Wisconsin has as one of its chief missions the role of educating these leaders on the concerns of its membership. The global network of World Trade Center offices, as well as the strong local contacts forged in and around Wisconsin, put the WTC Wisconsin in a unique position to make companies’ voices heard regarding the domestic and foreign issues that matter to them.

  • Domestic - Represent members’ views to state & federal elected leaders by:
    • maintaining open lines of communication through regular contact and by being a resource for legislative officials
    • Legislative Update - publication for elected leaders discussing concerns and positions of WTC Wisconsin members
    • annual Trade Policy Conference – past presenters include Deputy USTR Peter Allgeier, U.S. Asst. Secretary of Commerce James Jochum, Congressmen Paul Ryan, Tom Barrett & Ron Kind, Governor Jim Doyle, WI Secretary of Commerce Cory Nettles, and Harley-Davidson VP for Governmental Affairs Tim Hoelter
    • providing members opportunities to meet and discuss pertinent issues of concern with elected leaders
  • Foreign – Represent members’ views to foreign government officials by:
    • maintaining open lines of communication with diplomatic & trade offices, ministries of trade, and ministries of foreign affairs
    • providing introductions and facilitating meetings
    • inviting foreign officials to attend key programs, meet members and present updates on their country’s policies and trade relations with the United States
